Finally, some runs at Coors Field.

Brady Singer cruised through seven innings allowing just one run, and the offense awakened as the Royals salvaged the series with a 10-1 win over the Rockies Sunday afternoon.

Tanner Gordon made his MLB debut in the start for the Rockies, and the Royals jumped on him in the second inning. Salvador Perez singled to begin the inning, the 1,500th career hit for the All-Star catcher. Michael Massey followed up with a single, and Freddy Fermin singled up the middle to score Salvy. Maikel Garcia had the big blow, a three-run home run to make it 4-0. It was Garcia’s first home run since May 17 and sixth overall.

Gordon kept the Royals in check after that until the seventh when he hung a change up to MJ Melendez, who hit his ninth home run of the year to make it 5-0.

Singer had a pretty impressive start in high altitude, snuffing out any rallies the Rockies were able to muster early on. He tired in the seventh, giving up an RBI single to Nolan Jones, but retired Aaron Schunk to get out of the inning. He gave the Royals seven innings with just one run allowed with seven strikeouts and two walks. Of his 86 pitches, 54 were for strikes, and he threw 9 four-seamers and 1 change-up, according to Baseball Savant.

The Royals poured on insurance runs late in the game. Michael Massey added an RBI single and Freddy Fermin contributed a sac fly in the eighth. Bobby Witt Jr. tried to make a late case for the All-Star team with a three-run home run in the ninth, his fifteenth of the year. Kris Bubic made his season debut fifteen months after Tommy John surgery and pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Royals are off tomorrow before beginning a quick two-game series in St. Louis against the Cardinals beginning on Tuesday evening.
