Rays win 5-1 after lengthy rain delay

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Kansas City Royals

Rays win soaked series opener behind Richie Palacios and Zack Littell

Richie Palacios would score on a wild pitch in the second to open the scoring, 1-0 Tampa Bay.

Zack Littell threw five scoreless innings, his first scoreless outing since March 30, doing so while striking out four.

And then, well, the skies opened.

A rain delay lasting two hours and thirty-nine minutes halted the series opener, and when play resumed, the Rays offense caught another gear.

Palacios would double in Josh Lowe to make it 2-0 in the sixth, and Bobby Witt Jr. would belt a solo shot, his 13th on the season, to cut the Rays lead in half.

From there, the Rays pull forward. Issac Paredes would double to plate two in the seventh, and Brandon Lowe hits a solo shot of his own in the ninth to make it 5-1.

Zack Littell gets the win, and Pete Fairbanks shuts the door to bring the Rays back over .500 (43-42).
