Cup of Coffee: Anthony, Campbell homer in Portland win; Romero ropes two triples

6/26 Cup of Coffee: Portland's big bats were at it again, as Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell each went deep in the Sea Dogs' victory. Bobby Dalbec's (pictured) power led Worcester to a win over the RailRiders. Joely Rodriguez also made his first appearances in two months in that game. Hayden Mullins' nine strikeouts and Mikey Romero's two triples propelled Greenville to an easy win. Luis Cohen's five strong innings and Nazzan Zantello's three hits gave Salem a win as well.

Bobby Dalbec led the charge offensively, belting a pair of home runs and driving in three. He now has 10 home runs with the WooSox this year to go along with an .887 OPS. Niko Kavadas picked up two hits, and Mickey Gasper went 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. Mark Contreras added a couple hits, including an RBI double. Brian Van Belle struggled in this start, lasting just 2 1/3 innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. Chase Shugart picked up the win in relief, tossing 3 2/3 shutout innings with four strikeouts and just one walk. Joely Rodriguez returned to the mound for the first time since April 26 at Fenway Park against the Cubs. He faced four hitters, retiring three and allowing another to reach on an error. Lucas Luetge surrendered a couple of runs, but notched the two-inning save.

Top prospect Roman Anthony got the scoring started for Portland, belting a two-run home run in the third inning. It was his eighth homer of the season. Kyle Teel had a nice night, going 2 for 4 with an RBI single. Kristian Campbell delivered the knockout punch in the eighth inning with a two-run shot. He is hitting .420 with a 1.222 OPS with the Sea Dogs. Marcelo Mayer added a single, a walk, his 13th stolen base, and a run scored. Isaac Coffey started and pitched well to earn his fourth win of the season. The 24-year old right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Caleb Bolden was incredible out of the bullpen, firing three perfect innings with five strikeouts. He threw 36 pitches, 27 of them for strikes. Robert Kwiatkowski picked up his first save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Hayden Mullins reached nine strikeouts for the second time this year, as the lefty dominated for the first four innings. He allowed just one solo home run and one walk. Nathan Landry was credited with the win, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Reidis Sena struck out the side in order in the ninth to close it out. Mikey Romero had a huge night out of the leadoff spot, going 3 for 5 with a pair of three-baggers. He also singled, drove in two, and scored twice. Ahbram Liendo and Luis Ravelo each picked up triples of their own, while Allan Castro crushed a three-run home run.

Luis Cohen was tremendous through the first five innings. The 21-year old righty did not allow a run on just three hits to go along with five strikeouts and one walk. His ERA is down to 3.83 on the year. Michael Sansone was terrific as well, picking up a four-inning save. He also did not allow a run on just two hits and no walks. Shortstop Nazzan Zanetello was perfect, reaching base in all four trips to the plate with two singles, a double, and a walk. It is the first three-hit game of his young professional career. Nelly Taylor went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored, and Marvin Alcantara reached three times with a single, a walk, and his second home run of the season.

Dalvinson Reyes was the headliner in this one, starting on the mound and throwing five shutout innings. The 17-year old gave up just three hits, walked only one, and punched out five. He has still not allowed a single run yet this season in 16 innings. Anthony Felix was very good out of the bullpen, tossing 2 1/3 shutout innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Moises Bolivar had the best offensive day, going 1 for 2 with two walks and a run scored. Ilan Fernandez and Liosward Marin each went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run batted in.

The Sox staged an incredible comeback in this one, winning after finding themselves in an 8-0 hole in the fourth inning. Justin Barry came through with a clutch game-tying two-run shot in the seventh inning as part of his 2-for-4 afternoon. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Edwin Brito ripped a walk-off home run, his second long ball of the year. Avinson Pinto had a big day as well, going 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI, while Jhoan Peguero singled, doubled, drove in two runs, and scored twice. After Charlie Zink surrendered five earned runs in the first inning, Juan Henriquez calmed things down with 2 2/3 shutout innings. He struck out four and did not issue a free pass. Cesar Muzziotti fired two hitless innings of his own with a pair of strikeouts, and Breilin Arredondo picked up the win after throwing a clean ninth inning.

Player of the Day: Bobby Dalbec's two home runs gets him the nod here. One of his home runs was a go-ahead shot in the fifth inning. Dalbec just continues to crush the ball in Triple-A, as he raised his slugging percentage to .559 in 2024 with Worcester. Last season in Triple-A his slugging percentage was .557, and in 2022 it was .563.
