Gamethread: Astros at White Sox
It’s Crochet day!
Happy Wednesday, White Sox fans! I’m still enjoying the high from yesterday’s awesome win by rookie Jonathan Cannon. If you didn’t see it, you missed a real gem. Put his next start on your calendar. This kid could really have something.
Speaking of kids who really have something, Garrett Crochet hits the bump tonight. The big lefty has been all-around spectacular this year — one of the very few bright spots in this dreadful season. He’s 6-5 so far with a 3.16 ERA and an amazing 0.90 WHIP, which leads the American League. Opposing batters are also only hitting .182 against him, which ranks third in the AL. At this point, the southpaw looks like a shoo-in as the Sox All-Star representative. Unfortunately, he will likely be the only one.
With almost a completely revamped Houston lineup, the only player who has faced Crochet before and is in tonight’s lineup is Alex Bregman. He’s 2-for-2 with a double.
For the Astros, we’ll see 25-year-old Hunter Brown. The righthander struggled a bit to start the year but has improved as the season has gone on. In June, he’s 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA, so his overall record of 3-5 and a 5.00 ERA really doesn’t paint an accurate picture of how good he’s been lately. Brown has faced the Sox only once before and that was last May. He got the win after tossing 5 2⁄3, surrendering three runs on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
