Friday’s news and notes for the A’s and the rest of Major League Baseball.

The Oakland Athletics pulled off a comeback for the ages Thursday by outlasting the Colorado Rockies 10-9 in 11 innings. After allowing four runs to start the 11th, the A’s entered their final at-bat trailing 9-5. They scored five times in the 11th, including a game-tying, two-run home run by JJ Bleday. A bases loaded walk by Tyler Soderstrom finally brought the game to an end.

The A’s started the season 14-17 through the end of April and while that might not be a great mark, it was much better than many were expecting for a team that had so much off the field baggage coming into the season. May has been a tougher go of things as Oakland is just 7-14 after Thursday’s win and are 21-31 overall.

Still, they have shown an incredible amount of fight which is something you want to see from a typically young roster.

“We’re going to enjoy this one,” Kotsay said. “I don’t want to pass this one yet. This one feels too good. But yes, we obviously know, we wanted an opportunity to play this team. They’ve had our number for a little while and every series is a challenge.

“But I think these guys know where we’re at and what that opportunity is to go out and play their best.”
