Gamethread: White Sox at Yankees
Old friend alert: Carlos Rodón will face his former team to secure the sweep
Happy Sunday, Sox fans! Today, the Chicago White Sox will face the New York Yankees and hopefully come out of it with a win to avoid a series sweep in The Bronx. The Yankees are red-hot, and have slowed down the slight surge on the South Side. Chris Flexen and Carlos Rodón will go head-to-head today.
Flexen is 2-3 with a 4.46 ERA and 1.26 WHIP this season. He has 30 strikeouts in 40 1⁄3 innings pitched, and overall has been average. His last game against the Washington Nationals he was an effort of 4 2⁄3 innings with seven hits, three runs, one walk, and five strikeouts. His outing prior against the Tampa Bay Rays was much better, as Flexen went six innings with three hits, one run, and eight strikeouts. Hopefully that version can appear today, pushing his appearance to at least six innings.
Old friend alerts are always fun, and facing Rodón will be a bittersweet moment. Rodón had a great 2021 season with the White Sox, including a no-hitter (which really should have been a perfect game, but we won’t get into that.) Rodón has struggled with injuries since signing with the Yankees in 2023, but is off to a great and healthy start this season. He is 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He has 49 strikeouts in 49 innings, and looks like his 2021-22 self. His last game against the Minnesota Twins was efficient, as Rondón went six innings with six hits, one run, and six strikeouts.

This is an interesting lineup, to say the least. It’s a typical Sunday Scaries lineup — or is that every lineup these days? Pedro Grifol made sure that Martín Maldonado was starting, so Korey Lee is the DH for the day. Eloy Jiménez is back in the outfield, this time in right field. Everyone hold your breath. Corey Julks will start his second game with the team, and Andrew Benintendi gets the day off, because why not.

Sadly, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge are both in the lineup, hitting back-to-back.
Game time is at 12:35 p.m. CT on NBCSCHI and ESPN 1000.
