Ryan Clifford, Brandon Sproat Promoted To Double-A Binghamton

According to Daniel Wexler, first baseman Ryan Clifford and right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat are being promoted from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton. Clifford is MMO’s fourth-ranked prospect in the system, while Sproat is ranked 15th.

The 20-year old Clifford, acquired in the trade for Justin Verlander, was slashing .216/.412/.304, with a .716 OPS for Brooklyn as of Sunday. The skill most on display early on this year has been his keen eye at the plate, drawing 32 walks across 102 at-bats, which has resulted in a starling .412 on-base percentage.

Clifford has yet to reach the Double-A level in his career. Prior to Sunday’s game, he owned a career .831 OPS across three seasons in the minor leagues.

Sproat was drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft with the 56th-overall pick. In his first official professional season with High-A Brooklyn, the 23-year old owned a 1.07 ERA across 25 1/3 innings. He has struck out 33 batters and opposing hitters only have a .141 average against him. He has however struggled with walks, posting 16.

The former Florida Gator has bursted onto the scene this year. Another prospect enduring a fast rise in the Mets’ system and organizational prospect ranking lists.

Each are joining an 18-13 Binghamton team whose roster features other top prospects in Alex Ramírez, Kevin Parada, Tyler Stuart, among others.
