[Men's Indoor Track & Field] Heptathlon Kicks Off Men's Indoor Track Season

Doane Men's Track and Field got the indoor season started on Saturday and Sunday by hosting the annual Happy Holidays Multi-Event with Central Missouri and Central (Iowa). The Tigers had three competitors in the meet.

The meet opened with the 60-meter dash. Mason Zimmerman (JR/Wilber, Neb.) posted the Tigers' top time at 7.50. Zach Fye (SO/Crete, Neb.) followed in 7.59 and Devin Jepson (SO/Wood River, Neb.) crossed in 7.63. The long jump was next with Zimmerman hitting a mark of 6.25m (20-06.25). Fye came in at 6.18m (20-03.50) and Jepson posted a mark of 6.15m (20-02.25).

In the shot put, Fye hit the Tigers' top mark, and second-best of the event overall, with a throw of 12.06m (39-07). Zimmerman had a throw of 10.75m (35-03.25) and Jepson had a toss of 10.18m (33-04.75). The first day concluded with the high jump as Jepson hit the top mark for Doane by clearing 1.83m (6-00.00). Fye and Zimmerman each cleared 1.77m (5-09.75).

At the end of the first day, Fye was ninth overall followed by Zimmerman and Jepson.

On Sunday, the athletes resumed the meet with the 60-meter hurdles. Zimmerman ran a time of 9.15 with Fye crossing in 9.25 and Jepson at 9.90 seconds. In the pole vault, Fye had the top clearance for Doane at 3.50m (11-05.75). Zimmerman cleared 3.40m (11-01.75) and Jepson surpassed 3.20m (10-06.00).

The final event was the 1000-meter run. Fye posted the third-fastest time of the competitors, crossing the finish line in 2:51.32. Jepson ran a time of 3:11.11 and Zimmerman finished in 3:12.93.

Fye finished 8th overall with a total score of 4,448. Zimmerman was 10th with 4,200 points and Jepson was 11th with 3,964 points.

Most of the Tiger team members will get their season started next weekend as Doane travels to Seward to compete in the Concordia Early Bird Meet.
