Mets Pick Up 2023 Options for Carlos Carrasco, John Curtiss

Mets’ GM Billy Eppler announced on Thursday afternoon that the team was picking up the $14 million option for right-hander Carlos Carrasco and the $775K option for right-hander John Curtiss for the 2023 season.

Carrasco, 35, went 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA, 3.53 FIP, and struck out 152 batters in 152 innings for the Mets this season. If the Mets declined Carrasco’s option they would’ve had to pay him $3 million. That combined with the fact that starters Jacob deGrom, Taijuan Walker, and Chris Bassitt are all free agents, made it a no-brainer to ensure Carrasco would be in the Mets rotation for the 2023 season.

Curtiss, 29, was signed by the Mets this year, but he missed the entire season after having Tommy John surgery in September of 2021. The reliever pitched to a 3.45 ERA in 44 1/3 innings combined between the Marlins and Brewers in 2021.

Curtiss does have a minor-league option left.
