Ellen Roberts pitches Australia to win over Puerto Rico
Ellen Roberts was brilliant this afternoon at Hoover Met Stadium leading Australia to a key win over Purto Rico, 3-0, to even their record 1-1. The right-handed pitcher tossed a complete game shutout with 7 strikeouts, while allowing only 4 scattered hits.
Australia took the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Taylah Tsitsikronis. In the sixth frame, Jade Wall hit a solo shot to right field to add one more run, while pinch runner Stephanie Trzcinski scored from third on a wild pitch.
For Puerto Rico, the loser was Xeana Dung, who pitched 5.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, and 4 walks.
Australia and Puerto Rico have now the same 1-1 record. On day 3, Australia will face Mexico at 10 a.m. and Puerto Rico will close the Group A playing Japan.
