Mets, Rockies Friday Game Postponed; Doubleheader on Saturday

The Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets game originally scheduled for Friday, May 20 at 8:40 p.m. ET has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be played on Saturday, May 21 at 3:10 p.m. ET as the first game of a split doubleheader. The game originally scheduled for 8:10 p.m. has been moved to a 8:40 p.m. ET first pitch.

The local forecast shows that Denver will get three-to-five inches of snow on Friday night with a winter storm warning effect until 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. The snow showers look like they’re expected to start tapering off around noon time in Denver on Saturday.

Assuming they get the field cleaned off to play on Saturday, the high temperature for the day is currently at 44 degrees. The weather warms up to 57 degrees on Sunday when the Mets and Rockies are scheduled to play at 3:10 p.m. ET.

This is the second straight season that the Mets have dealt with a postponed game in Denver because of snow.

Right-hander Carlos Carrasco was scheduled to start for the Mets on Friday night against righty German Marquez for the Rockies. The Mets had yet to announce a starter for the scheduled Saturday game, though it was expected to be left-hander David Peterson. Left-hander Austin Gomber was scheduled for the Rockies.

It’s supposed to be a matchup of right-handers Taijuan Walker and Chad Kuhl in the finale of the three-games series on Sunday. We will keep you updated when the Mets announce how they plan to use their starters in the amended schedule.

The Mets and Rockies played two doubleheaders last season, with the the Mets winning one and the two teams splitting the other. The Mets won five of the seven games they played against the Rockies last season, including the final three at Citi Field.

The Mets enter this series coming off taking three of four from the Cardinals with the finale ending on a long walk-off home run by Pete Alonso.
