[Baseball] Falcons Fall to No. 17 McPherson
McPHERSON, Kan. — The No. 17-ranked McPherson College Bulldogs hit five home runs to top the Friends University Falcons 11-5 Friday (Apr. 29) in McPherson, Kan.
The Bulldogs scored early and often, hitting a pair of homers in the top of the first while adding two runs in the second, and one in each of the third and fourth innings.
Pryce Anderson (JR/Coffeyville, Kan.) put the Falcons on the board in the fifth with his ninth homer of the season to make it a 7-1 Bulldogs lead. The Falcons continued to threaten for more, but a called third-strike to Oliver Dunn (FR/Endeavour Hills, Australia) ended the inning.
Another three-run shot by Trevor Johnson pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Falcons loaded the bases in the top of the sixth before Max Coyt (SR/Hanford, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch that sparked a four-run inning. Elerie Rivera (SR/Patillas, Puerto Rico) capped off the frame with a base hit up the middle to bring Anderson home and cut the lead in half.
James Canar added to the Bulldogs' lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to close out the scoring.
Coyt finished 3-for-4 at the plate for the Falcons, while Rivera added a pair of hits and Anderson drove in two runs.
Johnson had three home runs to lead the Bulldogs and finished with four of McPherson's 16 hits.
The teams close out the three-game set with a doubleheader tomorrow (Apr. 30) in McPherson. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
