[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Splits in Sweeps
Doane Women's Tennis took on Baker University and William Jewell College on Friday and Saturday in Liberty, Missouri. The Tigers defeated Baker, 7-0, on Friday but dropped Saturday's match against WJC, 7-0.
Doane swept the doubles matches against Baker to jump out to the early lead. In singles action, the match at No. 1 was the tightest battle as Amber Weston (SO/Mead, Colo.) rallied for a tie-break victory, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 1-0 (10-6). After winning set 1, 7-5, both Ava Macke (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Liz van der Torre (JR/Greeley, Colo.) won their respective singles matches with a more decisive second set win. Ashlyn Kucera (FR/Grand Island, Neb.), Huong Ngo, and Payton Stalder (SR/Omaha, Neb.) also won in straight sets.
The only match the Tigers were able to take against William Jewell came at 2-doubles where Weston and Kucera won 6-4, however, the Cardinals were able to take the doubles team point by winning at 1 and 3-doubles. Doane was able to put together some very competitive matches in singles play but could not snag any points for the team score.
