Morning Briefing: OTD 2005, John Franco Departs Mets For Astros
Good morning, Mets fans!
It was a virtually silent lockout Saturday in baseball world. So instead, we take a look back at 17 years ago when the Astros signed reliever John Franco. Franco pitched in 695 games for the Mets from 1990 to 2004, posting a 3.10 ERA. In 1970, he finished seventh in Cy Young voting and 20th in MVP voting.
He lasted just one more year in the big leagues. After putting up a 7.20 ERA in 31 games with the Astros, he hung up the cleats and brought an end to an impressive career. He finished with a 2.89 ERA over 21 seasons, accumulating 1245 2/3 major league innings.
