[Men's Tennis] Hawk Men Dominate at NAIA West ITA Regional Championships
RAMONA, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College Hawks men's tennis team ran roughshod over the competition at the 2021 NAIA West ITA Regional Championships at Riviera Oaks Resort & Racquet Club this past weekend.
Claiming both the Men's Open Singles title and the Men's Open Doubles championship, the San Diego Christian men have established themselves as the top team in the west and one of the top teams in all of NAIA collegiate tennis.
In singles, three Hawks, Nick Nienhaus, Chris Papa, and Julius Kauffman would all make the quarterfinals. Nienhaus and Papa would advance all the way to the finals, battling each other for the crown. Nienhaus would come out on top in singles, having never dropped a single set to an opponent.
Fresh off their singles final matchup, Nienhaus and Papa joined forces to demolish their opponents (6-2, 6-0) in the men's doubles final.
The victories will send Nienhaus (singles, doubles) and Papa (doubles) to the ITA Cup tournament in Rome, GA, on October 14-17, 2021.
