Matt Harvey Delivers A Six-Pack

0 22

Sunday’s 5-0 shutout of the Kansas City Royals accomplished a few things. The Orioles have now won two games in a row. The Orioles won the first series out of the gate at the start of the second half of the 2021 season. Most significantly, RHP Matt Harvey gave the Orioles six full innings of work, his first such outing since April 26th against the New York Yankees..

Harvey scattered 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2 to earn the win, his 4th of the year and his first since May 1st. He threw 48 of his 74 pitches for strikes and faced 23 batters; Harvey hit a batter as well.

Harvey pitched his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning with the help of Domingo Leyba who smothered a single by Hunter Dozier and kept Salvador Perez on third, preventing the Royals from scoring.

Four Orioles relievers, Adam Plutko (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB), Tanner Scott (0.2 IP, 1 K), Cole Sulser (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K) and Dillon Tate (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K) held the Royals in check.

Austin Hays led the way offensively with a 2 for 5, 1 double, 2 runs scored effort while Ramon Urias contributed a 2 for 5, 2 RBI effort of his own.

Ryan McKenna (1 for 3, 1 run scored) showed off his speed in the 6th inning when he scored from first base on an Austin Wynns single to left.

Wynns had a nice day with the bat, going 1 for 3 with a double, 1 run scored, 1 RBI and a walk.

All of this came on the 13th anniversary of the release of “The Dark Knight”, Harvey’s former moniker, in the US.
