Brandon Nimmo is set to resume his rehab assignment on Sunday in Syracuse for the Triple-A Mets. Nimmo’s original rehab assignment was halted on May 13. Nimmo will lead off two spots in front of teammate Michael Conforto, who is wrapping up a rehab assignment of his own.

Nimmo’s original rehab assignment was halted due to more issues arising from pain in his finger. The initial diagnosis was a nerve based issue, but later opinions determined that the injury was related to a torn ligament in his finger that was causing him the discomfort. He had issues with dry swings early on, but was said to be in the final stages before heading out on assignment, according to Mets’ manager Luis Rojas several days ago.

On the young season prior to getting hurt, Nimmo was slashing .318/.430/.439 with one homer and much improved defense in center field. Nimmo’s presence will be a major boost to a lineup that has recently gone quiet. With Conforto and Jeff McNeil both set to return soon, the Mets are close to being healthy again as they sit with a four game lead in the NL East.
