Elieser Hernandez Leaves Game in the Third Inning
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Elieser Hernandez was removed from his start against the Tampa Bay Rays in the third inning. The reason for the removal was not clear, although Marc Topkin noted that Hernandez has had blister issues in the past.
The Marlins’ bullpen has been busy through two games this season. Before tonight’s game, eight different bullpen pitchers pitched seven innings. Anthony Bass was tasked with closing the game yesterday with the Marlins ahead 4-2, but he ended up allowing four runs and blowing the save, allowing the Rays to walk away with a 6-4 victory.
Saturday night’s contest is the final game of a three-game series. Both teams have an off day Sunday, which means the Marlins can empty the tank with their bullpen arms tonight, without consequence tomorrow.
