Carrasco was the lone Rule 5 pick from the White Sox this past December, picked up during the minor-league phase of the draft during which the organization also lost A.J. Puckett to the Atlanta Braves.
Carrasco is a native of Tijuana and most recently played this past winter for the Yaquis de Obregon in the Mexican Pacific Winter League, where he pitched 17 games to a 4.67 ERA and 1.327 WHIP at nearly eight years younger than the average MXPW player.
The lanky righty has been lights-out over three professional seasons as a teenager, with a 2.73 ERA over 102 1⁄3 innings (42 games) in rookie play and A-ball. A hallmark of Carrasco’s early career has been pinpoint control, coupled with good strikeout numbers; his K/BB ratio has mostly been outstanding thus far.
He pitched his first (Dominican Rookie League) season as a starter in the San Diego system, but has worked out of the bullpen ever since.
Now just 21 years old, expect Carrasco to play in Kannapolis in 2021.
