0 6

Doane Football went on the road for the first time this season and took on a hot Hastings team. The Broncos rolled in their season opener before dropping an overtime road contest at Concordia last week. Both teams entered the game at 1-1 on the year as they met for the 119th time.

The game saw plenty of offensive firepower as Doane rolled up 414 yards of offense, including 325 on the ground, as they posted a 52-37 win. The Tigers broke a 21-all tie in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.

In the 1st quarter, both teams scored a pair of touchdowns. Doane struck first with a 16-yard Adam Wasserman (SO/Fairbury, Neb.) pass to Josh Baker (SR/Omaha, Neb.). Hastings came back with a pair of scores to take a 14-7 lead over the Tigers. A 30-yard Wasserman run with 38 seconds left in the quarter tied the game at 14-all.

Doane was the only team to score in the 2nd quarter. Jamaine Derogene (SR/Dunedin, Florida) scored from 18-yards out following a strip-sack by Wyatt Bodfield (SR/Crete, Neb.) to give the Tigers the ball deep in Bronco territory. Doane led 21-14 at the half.

Hastings tied the game early in the 3rd quarter before Derogene and the Tigers put the Broncos away. Doane regained the lead on a 75-yard run by Derogene. On the ensuing kickoff, Riley Heithoff (SR/Raymond, Neb.) forced a fumble and the Tigers recovered. On the next play, Wasserman threw down the sidelines and Kaden Reimers (SR/Palmer, Neb.) leaped over the defender to hall in a 28-yard touchdown reception for a 35-21 lead. Hastings picked up a field goal to close out the quarter.

The Broncos started the scoring in the 4th quarter only to see Doane score 17 unanswered points. Derogene scored on a 32-yard run and Jacobi White (SR/Grapevine, Texas) scored on a 10-yard run. Jeremy Henning (JR/Highlands Ranch, Colo.) converted a 41-yard field goal for his first career made field goal. Hastings added a score in the final minute to close out the scoring.

Derogene finished the game with 11 carries for 154 yards and three touchdowns. White rushed for 99 yards and a score. Wasserman completed seven passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Baker hauled in four receptions for 51 yards and a score.

Defensively, Heithoff led the Tigers with 15 tackles, five solo. He had three tackles for loss, including the first two sacks of his career, and a forced fumble. Ryan Lasauskas (JR/Omaha, Neb.) finished with 12 tackles and Mason Krause (JR/Lyndon, Kan.) added 10 tackles for the defense. Doane had 12 tackles for loss resulting in a loss of 44 rushing yards for the Broncos. The defense forced four turnovers, two fumbles and two interceptions. Damond Brown (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) picked off a pair of Hastings' passes while Jared Easton (JR/Glendale, Ariz.) and Cody Dooley (JR/Mansfield, Tex.) recovered fumbles.

Next up for the Tigers will be a home contest against Dakota Wesleyan on October 3 at 1 PM.
