Royals played old friend Lorenzo Cain today but were unable to beat him and the Brewers because of a bad 2nd inning and lack of offense. The game was fairly uneventful with all of the Brewers runs coming in the 2nd but there are still some positives from this game even though the Royals didn’t win.

As I said earlier the Brewers got all of their runs in the bottom of the 2nd versus Scott Blewett. It began with Manny Pina single that scored Logan Morrison. Then with two runners on Orlando Arcia hit a 3-run HR to make the game 4-0 Milwaukee. Royals got their first run in the 5th when Kyle Isbel scored on a wild pitch by Brent Suter. Royals struck again in the 6th when Cam Gallagher singled which drove in Erick Mejia. Unfortunately, that would be the last run the Royals scored.

On the pitching side, Jakob Junis made his first start going 1.0 inning and collecting 2 K’s. Jake Newberry had a scoreless 3rd. Prospect Kris Bubic had 2 scoreless innings getting Lorenzo Cain to ground into a double play and getting 2 strikeouts while displaying good stuff. Tyler Zuber also displayed some nasty stuff in the 6th getting a strikeout and double play. Josh Staumont continued his strong spring with another scoreless inning with a strikeout. Staumont could get a spot in the major league bullpen if he continues this success. Ofreidy Gomez also put up a scoreless frame.

Mike Montgomery makes his 1st start of the year tomorrow versus the Giants at 2:05.
