0 8

St. Ambrose scored 60 points in the paint in an overpowering 90-63 win over Holy Cross Saturday at Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees shot better than 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Saints 54-33 in improving to 13-12 overall and 11-7 in the CCAC.

The game turned on a huge run in the second quarter. Trailing 24-20 three minutes into the period, St. Ambrose scored the game's next 18 points. Six different Bees scored during the spurt with Kylie Wroblewski and Anna Plumer each scoring four. Maddy Cash's three-point play broke a 24-24 tie and minutes later, Madi Epperson knocked down a 3-pointer to cap the run for a 38-24 SAU advantage.

The lead was 44-29 at the half before layups from Cash and Jamie Martens and a 3-pointer from Wroblewski extended the margin to 51-29 just over a minute into the second half. The lead, which grew to as many as 31 points in the fourth quarter, was at least 18 points the rest of the way.

Wroblewski led St. Ambrose with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jaynee Prestegaard (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Plumer (10 points) helped the Bee bench outscore the Saint reserves 54-20.

Madeline Prestegaard scored eight points, and Martens, Avari Everts, Gabrielle Koelker and Abby Lownik each finished with six points. Martens also came up with six boards in the win.

Fifteen different Bees saw at least four minutes of action, and 14 of them scored at least two points.

While shooting 37-of-73 from the floor (50.7 percent), SAU limited Holy Cross to 25-of-71 shooting (35.2 percent). The Saints (8-18, 7-11 CCAC) were just 9-of-34 from beyond the arc.

St. Ambrose will visit No. 24 Olivet Nazarene Wednesday.
