[Men's Basketball] St. Andrews drops heartbreaking buzzer beater to Milligan
LAURINBURG, N.C. – The St. Andrews Men's Basketball team fell to Milligan College in heartbreaking fashion after a last second shot put the Buffaloes ahead of the Knights, 80-78.
How It Happened
A made basket from behind the arc would get the game started for Milligan College, but was followed by a long 2-pointer by SAU's Myron Williams. The Buffaloes knocked down another 3-pointer before Isaac Clay sank one for the Knights.
Milligan collected two free throws before extending the lead to 9 with several made baskets, all while holding the Knights to 5 points.
Jamaan Bailey put a halt to the Buffaloes run with a shot from downtown that was followed by a 2-pointer from Issac Clay, making the score 10-14.
After the Knights tied up the game at 24-all, Isaac Clay recorded an and-1 after putting up a basket and drawing a foul on the Buffaloes. Q'Dardrius Sanders kept the energy up for the Knights with a drained three from downtown, making the score 29-26.
Milligan closed in on the lead with a two-pointer but was matched by a shot from Darryl McCaster to put the Knights up by 2. The Buffaloes were able to pick up the lead after stringing together 7 points in a row, setting the score at 30-35.
With just over one-minute remaining in the first half, the score was tied 41-41 after Myron Williams made a shot in the paint but the Buffaloes basketed a shot before the buzzer to give them the lead going into halftime, 41-43.
The second half began with Milligan extending their lead to 4 points before the Knights tied the game with two made shots from Myron Williams.
The Buffaloes picked up the lead at 50-51 and stretched it to 4 points after a made shot from the arc. After Milligan went on a 7-point run, Martaye Sembly got things started back up for the Knights with a shot from downtown, putting SAU within 3 points of Milligan.
Myron Williams cut the Buffaloes lead to just one point at 67-68 with a 2-pointer that he followed with a made 3 to give SAU the 70-68 lead.
St. Andrews created their largest lead of the game with just under 5 minutes of play left in the game as Jamaan Bailey sank a 3-pointer, making the score 74-70.
The game was tied at 77-77 with 53 seconds left in the game, with the clock running down to below 2 seconds, Milligan sank a 3-pointer right before the buzzer to win the game, 80-78.
