Mets Showing Interest in Tigers Reliever Joe Jimenez

0 3

According to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, the Mets and Rays have shown interest in Tigers right-handed reliever Joe Jimenez.

Jimenez, 24, has a 4.96 ERA, 4.83 FIP, and 1.35 WHIP in 32.2 innings out of Tigers pen this year. He does have 49 strikeouts (13.5 K.9) in that span, though he has also allowed a whopping seven home runs (1.9 HR/9).

The 2018 season was much better for Jimenez when he selected to be an American League All-Star. He posted a 4.31 ERA, 2.91 FIP, and 11.2 K/9 over 62.2 innings.

Jimenez is essentially a two-pitch guy with a four-seamer that averages 95 mph and a slider that averages 86 mph. Hitters are just 5-for-30 with 12 strikeouts on his slider this year.

One thing that makes Jimenez attractive to teams is that he’s under team control through the 2023 season.

The Mets bullpen has a 5.58 ERA this season. Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen will have to get creative in ways to improve the Mets disastrous bullpen.
