LEBANON, Tenn. – The clash between two explosive offenses lived up to the hype Tuesday afternoon when the 23rd-ranked Bryan College baseball team battled for a victory in a 16-10 slugfest at Mid-South Conference competitor Cumberland University. Of the nine total homeruns in the outing, six went Bryan's way, including a grand slam off the bat of Gabe Howell (FR/Summerville, Ga.). Howell was also one of three batters to double, as the freshman from Summerville, Georgia had himself a day. He led the Lions going 4-for-6 with four runs batted in, three runs scored, one double, and one homerun. The Appalachian Athletic Conference's homerun leader in Lake Burris (SR/Chatsworth, Ga.) also supported the Lions with a pair of homeruns on three hits while registering three RBIs. Wade Weinburger (JR/James Cistern, Bahamas) matched Howell for the team-best four hits and produced three RBIs off two bombs. Marcus Catalano (JR/Tuscon, Ariz.) got in on the action with two hits, one homer, one double, and a lone RBI. Others to chip in on Bryan's 17 total connections were two hits from Logan Peterson (JR/Chickamauga, Ga.) and one hit apiece by David Scoggins (JR/Marietta, Ga.) and Andres Cabreja (FR/Brooklyn, N.Y.). Tucker Cain (SR/Lebanon, Tenn.) was without a hit but accounted for two RBIs, and the duo of Scoggins and Tyler Scott (JR/Calgary, Alberta) aided with one RBI, respectively.
