[Women's Lacrosse] Bulldogs defeat Women's Lacrosse, TWU controls second half

LAURINBURG, N.C. – The St. Andrews Women's Lacrosse team hosted conference foe, (10) Tennessee Wesleyan, on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs topped the Knights with a score of 15-4.

  

The game was started with a quick SAU goal within the first minute of play by freshman Skii Bollinger (FR/ Wilmington, NC ) who began the game with a draw control over TWU. Within the next two minutes, the Bulldogs would answer back with a goal of their own. The Bulldogs were able to collect another goal before sophomore Briana Minter (SO/ Harrisburg, PA) tallied her first goal of the game to make the score 3-2.

 

After a TWU foul in the 15th-minute of play, Minter would connect with the net to tie the game 3-3. Minter shortly later would receive another free position shot which she would turn into another goal, taking the lead 4-3.

 

Tennessee Wesleyan recorded three goals within four minutes, to take the lead going into the half, 6-4.  St. Andrews had just 9 shots on goal compared to TWU's 17, with goalie Rita Garcia (FR/Newburgh, IN) collecting 10 saves in the first period.

 

The second half was dominated by the Bulldogs, shutting out the Knights, and putting 9 more goals in the net. Fouls were a factor for St. Andrews in the second half, collecting 13, as they nearly doubled the amount of fouls they recorded in the first half.

 

St. Andrews was led by Briana Minter's 3 goals and led in ground balls, tallying 4. Skii Bollinger also recorded a goal, won 4 draw controls, and led the Knights with 3 caused turnovers in the conference match up.

 

The Knights fall to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Women's Lacrosse team will next be in action on Friday, March 1st, at 1 pm as they travel to Waleska, GA to face (9) Reinhardt University.
