[Men's Lacrosse] Men's lacrosse faces another tough NCAA opponent

0 20

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.  - The Montreat Cavaliers played a good NCAA opponent closely but dropped their fourth game of the season when they fell to Wilmington University, 14-10, at Pulliam Stadium on Thursday night.

With the loss, Montreat fell to 0-4 on the season, but have one of the tougher schedules in NAIA men's lacrosse with six NCAA opponents and six top-ten/RV NAIA opponents.

Freshman Jacob Buchman scored the opening goal off a dodge and set the tone for what would be a close contest throughout.

The Cavs were sound defensively, with long pole Riki Rendon-Habana playing an outstanding game in the Montreat end. Fellow close defensemen John Cox also played well, and came up with several key clears for Montreat. Tristen Terry was sharp in goal and turned away 12 Wildcats' shots, several from point-blank range.

Offensively, midfielder/faceoff specialist Joshua Brown scored four goals for the Cavs. He also led the team with seven ground balls. Attackman John Ferris had three assists, while Chris Jackson added two goals. Cody Bischoff, Josten Ucros, and Riggs Wolf rounded out the Montreat goal-scorers with a goal each.

The Cavs travel east to face Greensboro College (NCAA) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
