[Baseball] DSU Baseball opens 2019 season with 4-game series at Kansas Wesleyan

MADISON, S.D. (Feb. 7, 2019)—The Dakota State University Trojan baseball team begins their 2019 campaign under third-year head coach Geoff Schaab this weekend.  The Trojans play in a four-game series with Kansas Wesleyan (1-5 overall record) at Dean Evans Stadium (851 Markley Road) in Salina, Kan.  The doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday are set to start at 12 noon.

This mark the second straight year that DSU will be opening at Kansas Wesleyan.  The Coyotes won the doubleheader last season, winning 14-2 in the first game and rallying back for an 11-10 eight-inning thriller in the night cap.  KWU had won the last four meetings with DSU.  The last time the Trojans defeated the Coyotes was on Feb. 24, 2010 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis by the score of 8-1.

Kansas Wesleyan opened up their 2019 season with five straight losses before earning their first win of the season.  The Coyotes were swept by No. 25-ranked Louisiana State-Shreveport in a three-game series on Jan. 26-27.  KWU dropped their first two games to the College of the Ozarks on Feb. 1-2 before recording a 15-4 game three victory.

Next Up:  Dakota State continues their action on the road next weekend.  The Trojans play a three-game series at Manhattan Christian (Kan.).  The series begin on Friday, Feb. 15 with a single-game followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 16.  The series will be held at Eisenhower Baseball Complex in Manhattan, Kan.
