[Men's Cross Country] Isaac Eshenour Named 2018 USCAA National Cross Country Student Athlete of ...

Williamson senior cross country runner Isaac Eshenour (SR/Shippensburg, PA) has been named the 2018 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year.  The award is the highest honor the USCAA can bestow upon one of its student-athletes.  It is presented to the cross country runner who best combines outstanding athletic ability with success in cross country, with success in the classroom, as well as community involvement and service.  He recently received his award before a crowd of over 1,200 student-athletes and coaches as part of the USCAA's Fall Championship week in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

"I can't think of someone more deserving of this award than Isaac," shared Williamson's long-time athletic director Dale Plummer.  "He epitomizes everything the award stands for-and then some.

"When we nominated him, I knew he would be up against some outstanding competition for the award but I also felt like there would be few people out there who could top what he has done."

As far as cross country goes, Eshenour was a three-year starter and a 2018 team captain.  His efforts this season helped Williamson to one of their more successful seasons in recent memory, capped off most recently by a ninth place overall finish at the 2018 USCAA National Championships.

In addition to his work on the cross country course, he was also a two-year starter on the Williamson tennis team and helped lead Williamson to back-to-back Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference team titles.

While his work on the course was impressive, his work in the classroom is even more impressive.  He is at the top of his class in overall Grade Point Average and is a three-time USCAA Academic All-American.  He has made the Dean's list in each of his first four semesters at Williamson in his major of Machine Tool Technology.

An Eagle Scout, Eshenour has been devoted to helping out other Scouts in the past and is actively involved in his church back home.  He also is very involved in Williamson's chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, having attend the groups weekly meetings each week during his entire time at Williamson.

Perhaps most the most impressive thing of all is the fact that Isaac has achieved all of the above success, despite being a Type 1 diabetic.  He has to regularly inject himself with insulin on a daily basis.

"Isaac is a real inspiration to everyone who knows him.  He is everything you look for in a Williamson student, as well as a Williamson student-athlete," stated Plummer.

Eshenour' s Cross Country coach, Williamson Hall of Fame member Steve Hixson 7W3,  echoes Plummer's feelings.

"Isaac has been a real pleasure to coach.  I have enjoyed getting to know him as a runner, but even more so as a person.  He was a straight shooter, a hard worker and someone I could always count on the give it
