Tampa Bay Rays claim RHP Oliver Drake, outright Adam Moore and Jesus Sucre

The offseason moves are beginning!

The Tampa Bay Rays have claimed right-handed pitcher Oliver Drake off of waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The Rays also announced they have outrighted catchers Jesus Sucre and Adam Moore off of the 40-man roster. Both players have elected free agency.

Drake, 31, has spent parts of four seasons in the majors. Last season, he pitched in the majors for the Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays and the Twins, becoming the first player in major league history to pitch for five different teams in one season.

Drake was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 43rd round of the 2008 Amateur Draft, reaching the major leagues in 2015. He has been a reliever for the entire duration of his brief major league career, and hasn’t had much success. However, there are some intriguing parts of his game where he could succeed. His BABIP has been very high over the past couple of seasons as well as an exceptional swinging strike percentage could help him have success in the near future.

As Marc Topkin notes, the Rays are far from done in their early offseason moves, as they have several players to activate from the disabled list and a shortage of 40-man roster spots to work with.
