[Women's Soccer] Women's soccer takes Reinhardt to 2OT in season finale
MONTREAT, N.C. – Women's soccer ended the 2018 season in heartbreaking fashion with a double overtime 0-1 loss to Reinhardt University, who sits in third place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings. Tina Murphy ended her first season as head coach with a record of 5-7-3 (4-6-2 AAC), doubling the amount of conference wins the program has seen in the last three years combined.
"There's tremendous pride regarding the ground that this team broke this season," said Coach Murphy. "This result today is very different from years past. We'll keep the good things we built and take that into next year. We know there's so many things we need to continue to work hard on in the offseason and build for next season."
As a team today, the Cavs put up 10 shots, six on goal. Goalkeeper Payton Landy was able to make 11 saves as the squad held Reinhardt scoreless throughout regulation, only allowing one goal in the contest. "This result was important for us. Reinhardt is a tremendously talented and well-coached team, so for us to take them into double overtime was really good," said Coach Murphy.
There is a very positive mindset surrounding the Montreat College women's soccer program moving forward, as this season saw tremendous improvement for the program. "The future looks like continuing the work we've been doing, and adding more good players to the mix," said Coach Murphy.
