Reds at Nationals, Game One - Preview and Lineups

0
This is Tyler Mahle visually throwing his last few starts into a trash can.

The Reds take on Max Scherzer and the Nats.

Tyler Mahle was really, really good for a long stretch of games for the Cincinnati Reds this season. Tyler Mahle has been really, really bad for the last three games for the Cincinnati Reds, however.

In his last trio of outings dating back to July 11th, Mahle has been tagged for 20 hits, 16 runs (14 earned), and 6 walks in just 9.0 total IP, a stretch that has raised his season ERA by almost a full run. In that time, he’s yielded 5 dingers and opponents have slugged a meaty .787 against him, and on Thursday he gets to face a Washington Nationals team that just dropped a billion runs on the New York Mets earlier this week.

Those Nats, mind you, were flirting with trading Bryce Harper just three days ago, but opted not to with eyes on a late-season push towards a playoff spot. When you’ve got an ace like Max Scherzer on the roster, that’s always a seemingly prudent plan, too.

Scherzer will start for Washington tonight, which will make the Reds chances of ending their mild two-game losing streak a bit difficult, of course.

First pitch is set for 7:05 PM ET, so don’t you dare be 5 minutes late.
