[Baseball] Jones, Puzzangara Lead Williamson to Sweep of Christendom

After a big first game, come-from-behind win over Christendom College on Saturday, Williamson immediately found themselves in a 3-0 hole in the first inning of the second game.  Undaunted, Williamson once again would mount a comeback and then hang on again for a big 10-8 win and a doubleheader sweep.

The Mechanics trailed 3-1 in the second inning until Bobby Jones (FR/Chichester, PA) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded, and quickly unloaded them with a grand slam home-run to right center field, putting Williamson up 5-3.

Christendom proved their mettle though, as they refused to die, coming back with three runs of their own to regain the lead at 6-5.

The back-and-forth contest would then swing back in favor of Williamson, as they rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go back up, 8-6.  Christendom then closed to 8-7 in the fifth before Williamson pushed the lead back up to two, 9-7, in the bottom half of the inning.  The Crusaders then closed to within one run in the top of the sixth at 9-8, but Blaze Puzzangara (SR/West Chester, PA) gave the Mechanics all the breathing room they needed, as he blasted a solo homerun to left-center field to put Williamson up 10-8 and close out the scoring.

Jones and Puzzangara combined for five hits and eight RBIs to lead the offense on the day.  In addition to his work at the plate, Jones pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, striking out four, to pick up the win.

With the sweep, Williamson moves to 11-9 on the year and next takes on Atlantic Cape Community College in a doubleheader on the road on Tuesday at 2:30 P.M.
