[Baseball] Wilburn hurls Rio past Cougars
Rio Grande Sports Information
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - On a cold, wet Sunday morning, perhaps it was appropriate that someone with the nickname of a web-footed nature stole the show.
Dalton Wilburn, affectionately known as "Duck" to his teammates and coaches, tossed a two-hit shutout to help the University of Rio Grande post a 5-0 triumph over Indiana University Kokomo and salvage one win in their three-game River States Conference baseball weekend series at Bob Evans Field.
The junior right-hander from Ashville, Ohio earned his fourth win in five decisions and tossed the first nine-inning complete game of his career - at any level.
Wilburn walked five and finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before IU Kokomo's Dalton Clarke led off with a sinking line drive that Rio Grande junior right fielder David Rodriguez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) unsuccessfully tried to snare off the top of the grass.
The Cougars' only other hit came on a one-out clean single to left-center by Noah Darr.
