Phillies sign Scott Kingery to 6-year extension

The deal includes three options, extending Philadelphia’s control through 2026.

The Phillies have signed infielder Scott Kingery to a six-year contract that includes three club options, according to a club announcement. The deal runs through 2026, extending Philadelphia’s control for three seasons.

Kingery will open the season with the big-league club in a utility role. He was ranked by Baseball America as the 31st-best prospect in baseball over the winter.

Kingery, who turns 24 next month, was the Phillies’ second-round pick out of Arizona in 2015. He posted an impressive .392/.415/.725 line with four homers in 20 spring training games after splitting last year between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kingery is just the second player to secure a long-term deal before his major-league debut, joining Astros prospect Jonathan Singleton.
