[Men's Outdoor Track & Field] Outdoor Track Competes at UNCP Classic

PEMBROKE, NC - The St. Andrews University Men's & Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams competed in the D-2 Individual UNC-Pembroke Classic this past Friday and Saturday at nearby Pembroke.

Leading the Knights in the field events was freshman Michael Johnson (FR/Lexington, SC) as he placed 2nd in the shot put with a mark of 43 feet, 11 inches.

His teammate, freshman Danny McLane (FR/Lexington, SC) also placed 5th in the Hammer Throw with a personal record mark of 108 feet, five inches while he set another personal record in the Discus Throw with a mark of 75 feet, 3 inches to place 16th. Freshman Elijah Bryant (FR/Pikeville, NC) also competed in three field events and came away with good results. He was 8th in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 73 feet, 8 inches while he was 7th in the shot put in 36 feet 11 inches. Bryant was also 10th in the Discus Throw in 108 feet 9 inches.

Placing 4th in the 4x100 meter relay was the team of sophomore Nathan Smith (SO/Bronx, NY), and freshmen Montrell Douglas (SO/Raeford, NC), Justin Hector-White (FR/Charlotte, NC), and Dennis Leggett (FR/Tabor City, NC) in a school record time of 43.71 seconds.

Leading the men in sprints was Douglas as he placed third in the 100 meters with a school record time of 10.9 seconds. SAU also had two men run in the 200 meters with Hector-White leading the way with a 31st place finish in 24.13 seconds while fellow freshman Ibraheem Abdul-Mateen (FR/Durham, NC) was 37th in 25.9 seconds.

Smith also placed 5th in the triple jump with a mark of 42.6 feet while he was 13th in the long jump in 18.8 feet. Abdul-Mateen was then 17th in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet 6 inches while Hector-White placed 19th in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet 5 inches.

Junior Eduardo Andrade (JR/Mount Holly, NC) then led the Knights in the 1500 meters finishing 19th overall with a time of 4:37.8 while junior teammate Franco Portillo (SR/Menifee, CA) also placed 25th in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:53.

The teams are next competing as individuals at the Trojans Challenge at Mount Olive College (N.C.) on Saturday.
