Koji Uehara signs with Yomiuri Giants in Japan

0

Koji Uehara is returning to the team he started his professional career with.

Koji Uehara has signed a deal with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan, according to Carlos Yamazaki of the Tokyo Sports Press.

Uehara, who will turn 43 in April, will likely finish his career in his native country with the team in which his career began nearly 20 years ago. He spent 10 years with the Giants before coming to the United States and signing with the Orioles.

Uehara had a productive 2017 campaign with the Cubs in 49 appearances pitching to a 3.98 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with two saves. However, that could be Uehara’s last stint with a Major League club as he nears retirement.
