[Men's Volleyball] No. 1 Grand View Defeats No. 4 Saint Ambrose 3-1

Davenport, Iowa – No. 1 Grand View collected a 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19) road-win over No. 4 Saint Ambrose University. The Vikings are now 13-2 on the season. 

The top-ranked Vikings opened the day leading the match 2-0. Saint Ambrose fought back in the third set and then Grand View finished the match winning the fourth set. The Vikings finished with seven blocks as a team.

Set One: Grand View University 25 | Saint Ambrose University 18

The teams went back and forth up until Grand View broke a seven-all tie and stretched the lead to 17-10. The Vikings maintained the lead to win the set 25-18 on a Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba) kill. Grand View recorded 11 team kills for a .304 hitting percentage while the Bees recorded 10 team kills for a .154 hitting percentage.

Set Two: Grand View University 25 | Saint Ambrose University 20

The second set started the same way as the first set with the two teams swapping points until Grand View broke the six-all tie and gained a six-point lead. The Vikings continued to hold the lead and John Chamone (SO/Miami Beach, FL) finished the set on a kill. Grand View collected 11 team kills for a .296 hitting percentage while the Bees collected 10 kills for a .097 hitting percentage.

Set Three: Grand View University 22 | Saint Ambrose University 25

Grand View and Saint Ambrose competed in a close fought battle in the third set. The set was tied at 22 when a couple of Viking errors led the Bees to collect the victory. Grand View recorded 12 kills for a .250 hitting percentage while Saint Ambrose recorded 15 kills for a .357 hitting percentage.

Set Four: Grand View University 25 | Saint Ambrose University 19

The Vikings pulled away late in the fourth set to lead by seven points and then eventually took the 3-1 victory with a 25-19 win in the fourth and final set. Grand View collected 13 team kills with a .286 hitting percentage while Saint Ambrose recorded 11 team kills for a .176 hitting percentage.

Players of Notice…

Chapman and Chamone led the offense with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Brandon Anderson (JR/Davis Junction, IL) led the defense with 12 digs for the Vikings.
