[Men's Basketball] Mechanics Close Out first Half on Six Game Winning Streak
What looked like was going to be a disaster at the start of the season, has now proved to be an intriguing one for Williamson. After starting the season with just six players and losing their first five games, the Mechanics have put things together. After defeating Christendom College on Saturday, Williamson will carry a six-game winning streak into the Christmas Break.
Saturday's game was a microcosm on how Williamson has been able to turn their season around; great defense and a balanced attack. Williamson held a scrappy Christendom squad to just 28% shooting for the game Saturday, while holding their last six opponents to a combined 38% from the floor. Nazir Goldston led Williamson in scoring on Saturday with 24 points, making it the sixth straight game a different person has led Williamson in scoring. Kyree Freeman (JR/Glenarden, MD) added 11 points, nine assists and seven rebounds to help the effort against the Crusaders.
"We are not where we need to be but we are improving," stated Williamson head coach Bill Michaels. "We've come a long way from where we were in the beginning of November but we still have a long way to go. The guys could have panicked when we were 0-5 but they hung tough together and the results speak for themselves."
Speak for themselves indeed. Williamson's only loss after starting -5 was to NJCAA national power Rowan College at Gloucester County. Even better for Williamson is the fact they play six nationally ranked USCAA teams in the second semester, which gives them a chance to rise in the rankings.
"We can have a lot of say in our destiny and the destiny of other teams as well. We just have to keep playing our game, keep making smart plays and improving each time we hit the floor, be it a practice or a game. If we do that, we should be just moving forward," closed Michaels.
Williamson resumes play in 2018 on January 6 as they host Penn State Mont Alto in a 1:00 P.M. tip-off.
