[Shooting Sports] Vikings open season with defeat over SWCC
Des Moines, Iowa – Grand View shooting sports opened the 2017 season with a victory over Southwestern Community College 976-969 at the Isaack Walton League in Indianola, Iowa.
The Vikings unlocked the first competition this season with seven of the Vikings hitting 90 or more targets out of 100.
Top shots for the night, male and female both go to the Vikings with Reese Howard (SO/Indianola, IA) breaking 99/100 for the top male spot and Makayla Hardie (FR/Knoxville, IA) taking the top spot for the females with a 95/100.
Notable stand out for the Vikings was Ethan Jolliff (JR/Indianola, IA) shooting 98/100 in American Trap and shooting a needed six-point shot in the final round of team shoot offs to secure the Viking win.
Coach Charlie Mundy was pleased with the team's performance, "The team shot pretty well for our first competition of the season. It was nice to see some of our new team members step up last night as we were shorthanded with 2 of our top shots missing from competition."
Team Captains, Trenton Cheers (SR/Indianola, IA) and Kailye Hromatko (SO/Okoboji, IA) are both at the Olympic Selection Competition as they are both currently competing for a slot on the 2020 USA Shooting Olympic Team.
Vikings are in action next October 4 against Indian Hills Community College at their home location Isaack Walton League in Indianola, Iowa.
