[Men's Golf] Tigers climb leaderboard on day two to place third at ONU Fall Invite
ST. ANNE, Ill. —At their home course, the Olivet Nazarene University men's golf team was led by two juniors, one familiar to the Tiger lineup and one very new. Matt Winkelmann (JR/Wheaton, Ill.) and Justin Bowman (JR/Indianapolis, Ind.) both finished tied for sixth and helped the Tigers to a third-place finish, moving up two spots after day one. ONU joined eight other teams in beautiful conditions on Friday and Saturday.
A total of 55 golfers played in the 36-hole, two-day event at the par-72, 6430-yard course, Kankakee Elks Country Club. ONU finished third overall with a team score of 621 (313-308, +45). Columbia College (Mo.) won the event shooting a 600 (301-299, +24). Parkland College (Ill.) came in second with a score of 606 (313-308, +30), University of St. Francis (Ill.) finished fourth with a 625 (311-314, +49) and the second ONU team finished eighth with a 678 (341-337, +102).
Two juniors, Matt Winkelmann and Justin Bowman finished tied for sixth with a 151. Winkelmann went 75 and 76 (+7) and Bowman went 78 and 73 (+7). Zack Thorson (SR/Philo, Ill.) finished 16th with a 157 (79-78, +13) and Jake Butterfield (SO/Horton, Mich.) came in tied for 26th with a score of 162 (81-81, +18). Connor VanSteenburg shot a two-day score of 162 (81-81, +18).
Jake Tuttle (JR/Hampshire, Ill.) came in 34th with a two-day score of 167 (85-82, +23). Mitch Peterson (SO/Rockford, Ill.) came in tied for 35th with a 168 (82-86, +24). Geoffrey Herndon (SO/Pinckney, Mich.) finished tied for 45th with a 175 (88-87, +31) and so did Mac Hanson (SO/Louisville, Ohio) (83-92, +31). Luke Schneider (SO/Indianapolis, Ind.) came in tied for 47th with a 176 (93-83, +32) and Keegan Glade (FR/Shawnee, Kan.) shot a 180 (90-90, +36).
The Tigers will compete in the Bethel College (Ind.) Battle at Blackthorn Course on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16.
