[Baseball] Extra-Inning Win Propel Evangel to a Doubleheader Split

4.24.10 - Claremore, Okla.- It took four hours to declare a winner in the nightcap of the Evangels doubleheader with Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Rogers State University. After 12 innings, MACU prevailed 4-3 on Saturday afternoon following a 3-2 loss the opener at Hillcat Complex.

Matt Allen led off the 12th with a double and scored on an RBI single by junior James Frederick. The Evangels held RSU scoreless in the bottom of the frame to win the game and avoid the series sweep. The Evangels fell to RSU at home on Thursday 10-4.

MACU held the Hillcats to six hits in the game and they were hitless after the seventh inning.

The Evangels had a chance to end the game in the seventh but an error in the outfield allowed the tying run to score, sending the game into extra innings.

Ivan Juvera (2-1) got the win on the mound, pitching two innings of relief for the Evangels. Senior David Wynn started the game, tossing 165 pitches through nine innings, striking out 14 batters. Kyle Francis earned his first save of the season closing out the game allowing no hits with two strikeouts.

Casey Cassity (2-1) was tagged with loss for the Hillcats. The lefty allowed one run on four hits over the final four innings.

In the opener, the Hillcat held the Evangels to just four hits.

RSU pitcher Tyler Garner got the win, tossing a complete-game. He allowed two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts. 


MACU put the go-ahead run on base in the top of the seventh but they were unable to produce a run.

MACU starting pitcher Taylor Foster (2-2) took the loss tossing four innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with one strikeout.

Brian Carter led the team at the plate going 2-3 with two RBI's.

MACU is back in action on Monday, April 26th as they travel to Ozark Christian College for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
