[Men's Tennis] Five Tennis Players Named to 2016-17 NJCAA All-Academic Squad
Not only did the Williamson tennis team have the finest year of the court of any team in Williamson history, they also had the finest year in the classroom as well as the National Junior College Athletic Association announced recently that five of Williamson's six starting players were named to the 2016-17 NJCAA All –Academic team. Juniors Joe Marchozzi and Ryan Haines, along with freshman Chris Smith, John Coleman and Isaac Eshenour all were named to the squad.
In order to be named to the squad, students must have completed at least 24 credits and play a significant role in the team's success. The Grade Point Average criteria (on a 4.0 scale) is as follows:
First Team – 4.00
Second Team – 3.80 – 3.99
Third Team = 3.60 – 3.79
A starter at Sixth Singles, Eshenour was named to the First team. Voted the team's Most Improved Player at the conclusion of the season, Marchozzi, a starter at Third Singles, was named to the Second team. Smith (First Singles), Coleman (Second Singles) and Haines (Fifth Singles) all were named to the Third team.
The Williamson tennis team won the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference title for the second time in three years and advanced four players to the NJCAA Region XIX Men's tennis championship for the first time in school history.
In all, Williamson had a school record 19 student-athletes earn national recognition from either the NJCAA or the USCAA for their work on the field and in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year. The previous high for Williamson was 2015-16 with 14.
