[Football] Football Team Releases 2017 Schedule

Graduating 15 seniors is a big loss in itself.  Having to recover from that while facing a very challenging schedule can make that task even harder.  Such is the challenge facing the 2017 Williamson football team and head coach Dan Drake.

Entering his fifth season as head coach, Drake has built the program to the point where success is now expected from his teams.  Gone are the days when everyone wanted to play Williamson for their Homecoming game.  That pattern of success however will have to be accomplished with a much younger squad than Drake has been used to the past two years. 

Not only did Williamson graduate 15 seniors, but five of those seniors were Second team USCAA All-Americans as well as First team All-Seaboard Conference selections.  Another five joined those five on the All Seaboard Conference team last year as well. 

Despite those losses, the cupboard is far from bare and Drake is excited about his team for 2017.

"We had a great Spring and the guys have continued to work hard in the off-season.  We have some outstanding underclassman who are ready to shine as well as some guys who missed last year due to injuries who are now healthy and ready to show what they have.  We also have several very good freshmen who will undoubtedly help us our right away," commented Drake.

Drake will get some answers pretty quickly as Williamson opens on the road on September 9 against league opponent Jersey Coast Academy.  The Jaguars topped Williamson on a 43-yard field goal with no time left last year so that will be a great opening test.  Williamson then plays their first home game against powerhouse Gattaca College on September 16 before hitting the road for a Sunday afternoon game against Widener University's JV team.

After taking on Widener, Williamson returns home for three straight games against George Mason, Thaddeus Stevens and then for Homecoming on October 14 against the Delaware Gamecocks.  They then hit the road against perennial Seaboard Conference favorite Valley Forge, before closing out things on October 28 at home against Virginia A & M.
