Super Lap Battle 2013 - Global Time Attack
Miss all the action at Global Time Attack | Super Lap Battle 2013? BP staff was on the grid to provide you the latest coverage of North America’s premier time attack event.
The annual event held at Buttonwillow Raceway featured competitors from across the USA and Canada battling to shave time in format CW13. This year sparked controversial results, shattered records, and an overall win of the event coming from limited class RWD competitor Tyler McQuarrie in the Platte Forme A.G. BMW M3. We are looking forward to new competitors and the biggest names in the industry going head to head against grass roots racers next year!
Our friends at Evasive Motorsports and Scion Racing brought out their Unlimited Class Scion 2013 Scion FR-S but were unable to post any times for the day. We are looking forward to seeing this car in action next Global Time Attack season.
The Novak Racing Subaru RS, a GTA | SLB favorite, put down an extremely impressive 1:50.029 taking 2nd Place in Limited AWD Class.
JC Meynet made his highly anticipated return to time attack at this event since last years 2nd place win and placed 4th in Limited AWD Class this year with a 1:53.639 after mechanical issues put him out for 2 sessions of the day. However, Meynet remains the record holder for Limited AWD class with a 1:48.550… it looks like the Evasive Motorsports will have to push 1 second faster next year.
The R’s Tuning Honda S2000 featuring Powerhouse Amuse GT1 complete aero put down a 1:54.565 placing 4th in Limited RWD Class.
Evasive Motorsports also brought out their record holding CT9A Lancer Evolution featuring full Voltex Aero and GT Wing. The car only had to run 3 sessions before clocking the 2nd overall fastest lap (1:49.102) of the event (2nd Place SLB) and taking 1st place in Limited AWD Class (GTA).
The event winner attempted to best his own time but pushed the envelope a little too far in the final session of the day.. resulting in a damaged front end. However, Tyler McQuarrie swept the event and shattered the class record with a 1:48.029 in Limited RWD Class.
