Autumn Colours Classic Brings Fans to Peterborough Speedway
Through its more than 3-decade history, Central Ontario’s premiere motorsports event has been casually referred to by several different nicknames. Some call it ‘Colours’ or ‘ACC’. It has also been widely known as the Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing.
This year’s 32nd annual Peterborough Speedway B&G Towing and Recovery Autumn Colours Classic takes centre stage October 10th through 12th, drawing racers and fans from across every corner of the province to the popular facility on Mount Pleasant Road. The venue’s promotional team traditionally puts a year’s worth of planning into the season-ending spectacular.
The long weekend’s activity kicks-off Friday, October 10th when the pit gates open at 10:00 with pre-race technical inspection and practice sessions, followed by a 6:00 green flag and the first round of qualifying for the Bone Stock, Mini Stock and Super Stock fields. Also on the opening night docket will be the Ontario Legend Car Series, OSCAAR Hot Rods, Modifieds and OMRS SportsMods.
“This will be a huge event for our local teams and some of the top touring racers in the province,” said Peterborough Speedway track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse. “Even if they’ve never picked-up another checkered flag, an Autumn Colours Classic victory will stand out in a racer’s memory. Just ask local runners Jack Hannah or Dan Demers.”
Peterborough’s Hannah finished second in the 2005 Mini Stock standings and missed the 2007 track championship honours by just a single point. With several qualifying heat and feature wins during his tenure, the 2007 Autumn Colours Classic victory is the highlight of a 10-year career. Demers won the Bone Stock ‘A’ main during the 2009 running of the Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing. The veteran campaigner from Cavan has been a fixture at the track since 2001.
Another former ACC main event winner – Treyten Lapcevich of Grimsby, Ontario, who scored an Autumn Colours victory in 2017 – recently made his first start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Bristol Motor Speedway. His brother Cayden also has Autumn Colours Classic hardware in his trophy case, starting with a win in 2015.
