Shane Pecore wins the DIRTcar Sportsman Feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway!
Cornwall, ON – Sunday, July 6, 2025 – Martin Belanger – Cornwall Motor Speedway kicked off the month of July with a stacked night of racing action, highlighted by a doubleheader for the Sportsman division, featuring the remake of the June 1st DIRTcar Sportsman Series event, along with a full program in all weekly classes, and the return of the Street Stocks on Pioneer Hi-Bred – Charles Wert AG Products Night.
The DIRTcar Sportsman Series 50-lap feature headlined the evening with David Rogers jumping to the early lead ahead of Jacob Nadeau and Donovan Lussier. A quick caution on lap 3 slowed the field after an incident involving Trey Ladouceur, but Rogers remained in control on the restart. The action intensified as Lussier surged to second and Shane Pecore began his charge, moving into third. Another yellow on lap 8 for Elliot Gamache (flat tire) bunched the field again. On the lap 15 restart, Pecore made a bold move to take over the lead, while Rogers slipped back to fifth. Gavin Eisele and Lussier kept the pressure on in the top three. As the field reached the halfway mark, lapped traffic became a factor, but Pecore remained strong, pulling away. A late caution with 11 laps to go — caused when Lussier tangled with a lap car — gave the field one more chance, but Pecore was not to be denied, cruising to his second feature win of the weekend and, more importantly, securing the DIRTcar Sportsman North Region championship. Jacob Nadeau and Bobby Herrington completed the podium.
In the JLB Heating and Cooling 358-Modified 35-lap feature, Louie Jackson Jr. took the early lead ahead of Ryan Stabler and Corey Wheeler. Stabler found speed on the bottom and moved into the lead on lap 8. Ten laps in, Wheeler began to pressure Jackson for second as the top three ran closely together. The first caution came just past the halfway mark, with Stabler still in command. On the restart, Mario Clair worked his way into third, setting up a thrilling final run. Despite traffic and pressure from behind, Stabler remained composed, collecting his second feature win of the 2025 season, with Wheeler and Clair rounding out the top three.
In the Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock 25-lap feature, Delbert Legrow took the early lead with Marc Lalonde and Jocelyn Roy close behind. Lalonde stayed glued to Legrow’s back bumper before making a slick move around the top to take the lead on lap 5. As Lalonde built a solid gap, a caution on lap 16—caused by J-P Guay and Mike Gaucher—erased his advantage.
On the restart, Burton Ward emerged second after a heated battle with Roy and Legrow, but it was all Marc Lalonde up front as he held strong through the closing laps to collect his second win of the 2025 season.
Matt Barbour led the first lap in the Next Level Home Improvement feature as caution was out. On the restart, Barbour remained in front at Donovan Lussier moved to second and set sights on the leader, Lussier took the lead on lap 5. Lussier pulled away as Taylor Doxtater took third spot. Leaders made their way in lap traffic with 10 laps to go as Lussier kept this distance from Barbour. Caution was out with 23 laps completed. Lussier led the final laps to get his second win of the season.
The 25-lap Street Stock feature opened with Tyler French leading until an early caution on lap 3 slowed the pace. On the lap 5 restart, Brock Gregory powered by French for the top spot, with Stephane Philippe moving into third. The two Brighton Speedway regulars, Gregory and French, staged a thrilling battle up front as the yellow flew again at halfway. Back under green, French and Gregory resumed their war with Carter Rhoades now in third. In the final laps, French reclaimed the lead, with Philippe once again entering the fray. French stayed strong to secure the win, his first at Cornwall this season.
In the 20-lap Rick’s Ranch Mini-Stock feature, Christopher Proulx quickly jumped out front, showing dominant pace early on. Emily Massy settled into second with Michel Lecuyer in third. Proulx looked to be in control until a lap car caused issues late in the race, allowing Massy to slip by with just four laps to go. Massy made the most of her opportunity, holding on to score her first career feature win at Cornwall. Sebastien Raymond-Beauregard and Adrian Black completed the podium in a crowd-pleasing finish.
The Fun Zone Party Inflatables Novice Sportsman feature saw Denis Rose set the early pace, leading the first half of the 15-lap event. But as the race wore on, Shaun Lafave found speed and made his move, taking the lead and never looking back. Lafave went on to claim his first career win in the Novice Sportsman division.
