Jason Raymond Seeking First Stafford Victory in Midstate Site Development Street Stock 30
(Stafford Springs, CT)—In the midst of his third full-time season of Street Stock racing at Stafford Speedway, Somers, CT native Jason Raymond is still searching for his first victory. Raymond and his #49 Barn Package Store team have been steadily closing in on the top spot of the NAPA Victory Lane podium, recording a best finish of third during his rookie season in 2023 and two runner-up efforts last season. Raymond’s on-track performances suggest that it’s only a matter of time before he breaks through and takes home a winner’s trophy. What better opportunity than the biggest Street Stock race of the season—the Midstate Site Development Street Stock 30, set for this Friday, June 27—for Raymond to capture his first victory?
“I’m definitely looking forward to the race,” said Raymond. “I think my car gets better as the race goes along and I always feel like I’m running out of time at the end of races, so the extra 10 laps should help a lot. This is our biggest race of the season and the biggest payout of the year so it would be pretty cool to win this race. There’s also the fireworks after the races so it would be really nice to enjoy the fireworks after getting our first win. Thanks to all my sponsors, Barn Package Store, Tile Chief Floor and Wall Coverings, PRVL Creative, Innovations, Stafford House of Pizza, Tri-State Equipment Repair, and Larrabee’s Landscaping.”
Going strictly by his results on paper, an 11th and 19th place finish in his first two extra distance starts, Raymond might not look to be a strong contender for the checkered flag this Friday night. But Raymond is full of confidence, both in himself and in his car as he looks ahead to the MSD 30.
“2023 was my first year in the division and I didn’t really know what to expect in a long distance race,” said Raymond. “Last year, we were making a pass for third when I ran something over on the track that blew a hole in the radiator and ended our race because the car started overheating. I like extra distance racing because I think I get better as the laps go on, so the longer races benefit me, I’ve just had some bad luck. Hopefully this year we can avoid that. With how I like longer races and the car getting better the longer it runs, we’re hoping everything is pointing up for us this year.”
Although he has yet to win a race, there is no lack of hunger from Raymond’s side as his mind is consumed with the thoughts of winning.
“I feel like with how close the competition is this year, anyone of us in the top-10 can win a race on any given night,” said Raymond. “I think we’re close, it’s just a matter of getting the job done. I’m super hard on myself getting results so feeling like we can win a race is huge for me. I really want to get a win to get that off of my back. I feel like once I can get a first win, the rest will come a lot easier and I think about winning a race every week. The team tries to keep me calm and they always tell me to just do what I do and whatever happens will happen, but every week I’m thinking about winning.”
Raymond has been close to winning, notching two second place and three third place finishes last season after recording a best finish of third in his rookie season of 2023. Raymond’s best finish thus far in 2025 has been a fourth place finish, but he is one of only four drivers to have recorded a top-10 finish in each of the first six races of the season.
“This season has definitely been better for me knowing that I have a little more knowledge of the car and the track,” said Raymond. “The season has been good, we’ve consistently been in the top-10 and right around the front pack of cars, but I feel like I’m missing a little bit compared to some of the guys who are winning races like Aaron Plemons, Travis Downey, and Bert Ouellette. The car is a little inconsistent through the middle of the corner and that’s what we’re working on getting better.”
Through his consistent finishes this season, Raymond heads into the MSD 30 tied with Brandon Warren for fifth place in the Street Stock standings, only 24 points behind leader Aaron Plemons. Raymond is aiming to keep his #49 car near the top of the standings and a win in the MSD 30 would help him do just that.
“I want to be up there in points but my main goal is to win races and the points will come if we can stay consistent and pick up some wins,” said Raymond. “We just have to keep going through the car every week and make sure nothing is going to fall off and take me out of contention. That and I have to be smart on the track. As much as you might want to shoot for a gap, sometimes you have to think better of it and take what comes to you and be smart about things.”
