Sam Charland wins the 358-Modified feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway!
Cornwall, ON – Sunday, May 11, 2025 – Martin Belanger – G&J Yelle took centre stage as the proud sponsor of Opening Night at Cornwall Motor Speedway, held on Mother’s Day, with all regular divisions hitting the track for an action-packed evening of racing.
In the JLB Heating and Cooling 358-Modified Feature, Gabriel Cyr jumped to the early lead, pacing the field ahead of Sam Charland and Louie Jackson Jr. Charland wasted little time, making the pass on Cyr to take over the top spot just a few laps in, while Steve Bernier moved into third. By the halfway point, Charland had caught the tail end of the field, navigating lap traffic as Bernier closed the gap. The battle intensified as Bernier, Jackson, Corey Wheeler, and Jackson Gill ran nose-to-tail in a tight pack. Jackson made a move to take over second on lap 28, with Gill quickly following into third. But it was Sam Charland who remained in control throughout, navigating traffic flawlessly to capture his first 358-Modified feature win of the 2025 season.
In the 25-lap Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman Feature, Jacob Nadeau set the early pace with Shane Pecore quickly charging into second and Billy Cook settling into third. A caution on lap 3 slowed the action, but on the ensuing restart, Pecore surged to the front, overtaking Nadeau with Josh Jock moving into the mix. What followed was an exciting back-and-forth battle for the lead between Pecore and Nadeau, with multiple lead changes thrilling the crowd. A late caution with seven laps to go set the stage for a dramatic finish, but Shane Pecore held strong to lead the final circuits and capture his 35th career Sportsman feature win.
In the Alexandra Home Hardware Pro-Stock Feature, Rock Aubin set the pace early, leading the opening lap ahead of Burton Ward and Dan Desnoyers. Denis Gauvreau began making his move five laps in, advancing to third before capitalizing on a lap 6 restart to take second. Just two laps later, Gauvreau surged to the front using the outside lane. As he began to stretch his lead, Dave Seguin followed the same high line to move into second at the halfway point. Seguin steadily closed the gap until a caution was brought out on lap 21 by Peladeau, who came to a stop in turn four. With two laps remaining, another caution from Peladeau tightened the field again, but Gauvreau held strong under pressure and led the final laps to secure his first feature win of the season.
In the 25-lap Ricks Ranch Mini-Stock Feature, Marc Dagenais jumped out to an early lead, but lap traffic quickly became a factor. Antoine Dumouchel took advantage, moving to the front on lap 5. The battle for the lead remained intense, as Christopher Proulx surged ahead on lap 10. Dumouchel regrouped and reclaimed the top spot on lap 15, navigating traffic smoothly in the closing laps. He held firm under pressure to score his first feature win of the 2025 season.
In the Fun Zone Party Inflatables Novice Sportsman Feature, Bryan Tarbell delivered a dominant performance, leading from the green flag to the checkered to claim his first-ever feature win. Tarbell pulled away early and never looked back, earning a well-deserved victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Next Sunday promises to be one of the biggest events of the season as the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars roar into town, sharing the spotlight with the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals Modified Series, featuring a $4,000-to-win showdown.
