PVGP and Vintage Racer Group Extend Business Partnership

PITTSBURGH, PA (March 19, 2025) – Two long-time partners in vintage racing, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and Vintage Racer Group have announced a 5-year partnership extension.  The unique relationship, which joins together one of the nation’s largest vintage race groups with one of the country’s largest vintage motorsports festivals, aims to promote participation and grow the sport of vintage racing.

“While our two organizations have worked closely for many years, we welcome the support of VRG.  They bring high-quality vintage races and drivers to vintage racing events,” said Jim Dolan, Chairman of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association.  “The VRG represents a long and valued tradition of responsible competition, comradery and sportsmanship. The PVGP and VRG have worked together over many years, evolving with the changing vintage sport, yet remaining true to the spirit of these beautiful cars while adhering to the non-commercial roots of the sport,” Dolan went on to say.

Vintage Racer Group, which serves as a sanctioning body for vintage racing events across the country, has enjoyed a partnership with the PVGP that spans 20 years.  Moving forward, the partnership will concentrate on developing digital media content and promotional support and teaming up on safety improvements and innovations within the sport.

“We first worked with the PVGP at Pitt Race back in 2005, only a year after our organization was formed,” said John Wood, President of Vintage Racer Group.  “To expand that relationship from simply sanctioning their events to one with more of a marketing and collaborative focus is very exciting.  Our members love the uniqueness and authenticity the PVGP brings to our sport.  Promoting participation in our events and safety among vintage racers is at our core,” Wood concluded.

In addition to marketing support, the two organizations will collaborate on establishing updated PVGP criteria, including Car Classifications and Groupings, Car Eligibility and Rules, Driver Eligibility, and innovations in Safety Programs.

Motorsport festivities will commence July 11-20 this summer, with the PVGP Historics racing at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, PA, on July 11-13. Race weekend in Schenley Park has two tracks, the new Schenley Oval and the Panther Hollow Hillclimb, slated for July 19-20. VRG racers have been a vital part of both PVGP race weekends. Racer registration for all 2025 PVGP events is open here.

Entering its 43rd year, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is the largest vintage motorsport festival in North America and the only vintage race run on city streets.  The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix was a 2024 Finalist for Motorsport Event of the Year as recognized by the International Historic Motoring Awards.  Our volunteer-driven organization proudly supports our charity partners, raising more than $7 million since 1983.
